Lesbian By Choice Essays - Sexual Orientation,
Lesbian by Choice There are numerous names, names and classifications that have been relegated or given to lesbians. What is lesbian? Is it a specific kind of lady? Does one lesbian have an indistinguishable component or character as another lesbian? Does a lesbian have something extra or something missing from hetero ladies? This thought we can group a human being by their sexual inclination is totally absurd and unverified! Ladies are simply that, ladies. Sexual fascination in people, be it a similar sex or not, will be not a solid science that can permit society to name ladies. The decision of heterosexuality may not genuinely be a decision. In an ongoing review of ladies, 57% expressed that heterosexuality was not something that was thought of and afterward picked. For these ladies, there was no choice to be made with respect to their sexual inclination (Marrow, 1997). This is an fascinating figure when you consider of those above ladies, some confessed to having sexual experiences with other ladies. I accept the decision is intensely attached to our way of life, family esteems, and environmental factors. In the event that the entirety of the fish are swimming upstream, for what reason would you need to conflict with your gathering and swim downstream? Inside the lesbian network, Ponse (1978) makes reference to two gatherings. There are numerous lesbians that guarantee to have been conceived lesbian. To grow regarding this matter, one would state these ladies never scrutinized their sexual fascination. From the very first moment, they were pulled in to other ladies. In spite of the fact that this is alluded to as an essential lesbian, I don't trust it mitigates any of the marks of disgrace or gives any more solace or straightforwardness to the lady. The elective lesbian is viewed as having chose to be lesbian. These are ladies who have encountered hetero relations and have concluded that they lean toward a similar sex. This may show up as a decision, yet, it is a long way from that. Nature or family setting may have driven these ladies to subdue their actual wants out of dread of dismissal. They may likewise just be befuddled and expected to attempt one approach to more readily comprehend the other way (Golden, 1999). Among lesbian connections, we discover the information to be like hetero ladies. This makes sense and gives all the more bearing to the idea that ladies are ladies. Lesbian couples, similar to their hetero couples, favor monogamous connections when in a profound and mindful relationship. Lesbian couples seem to need and above all, anticipate very similar things from a relationship as a hetero lady (Garnets, 2000). Responsibility, backing, and family esteems. There are those that will guarantee lesbian couples can't in any way, shape or form have or need family esteems since they are not themselves a genuine family. This is a funny explanation to me when we consider it is men who have characterized family esteems all through the a long time. Clearly there are varying suppositions concerning. Their way of life, their convictions and their decisions have all been broke down, examined and characterized, yet to the consequence of what? Does a lady's sexual inclination influence anybody yet that individual? At that point for what reason is our general public so purpose on marking, understanding and oppressing lesbians? Might it be able to be that outrage is a disguise of individual curbed sexual inclinations? The opportunity has arrived for people to act like people and treat our species the equivalent, despite sexual inclination. All things considered, sexual inclination doesn't affect keenness levels, work morals, or trustworthiness in an individual. I accept those attributes are increasingly imperative to see then why a lady needs to be with another lady.

The National Bicycle Industry Company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
The National Bicycle Industry Company - Essay Example The mass-customization system was first brought about by the companyââ¬â¢s overseeing executive. He felt that if ladies could custom request their garments, why couldnââ¬â¢t bikes be created similarly. This thought came when the bike business was seeing languid deals, and the value that a client was eager to pay for a bike was dropping. Indeed, even senior individuals from the organization felt that executing the thought would be a hazard. Hence, this thought was brought out and actualized in the midst of a ton of wariness of whether the thought would work in any case. Be that as it may, the companyââ¬â¢s Managing Director proceeded with actualizing mass-customization. This was on the grounds that he needed to expand the standard of high worth included items produced by the organization. So as to execute this, he needed the organization to create bikes which took into account the necessities and likings of the client.

Close Encounters of the Literary Kind Perception in Out of All Them Bright Stars, Arena, and The Star - Literature Essay Samples
Many science fiction stories feature aliens, especially the interaction between humans and the extraterrestrials. These interactions from range from one-on-one encounters to merely experiencing the aliensââ¬â¢ culture from afar. No matter the nature of said encounter, the human nearly always leaves changed in some way. Usually this change occurs in how the human perceives the world and alters their personal paradigms. The short stories ââ¬Å"Out of All Them Bright Starsâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Arenaâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Starâ⬠all feature a narrator who encounters an alien or an alien race and walk away changed forever. This change due to such an otherworldly experience dramatizes how encountering something new and different can drastically alter how someone views the world and their personal morals and beliefs. Nancy Kressââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Out of All Them Bright Starsâ⬠offers an extremely direct encounter between the narrator, Sally, and a visiting alien named John. When John comes to the diner Sally works at, his presence disturbs the environment and other workers. Yet, Sally immediately goes over to ââ¬Å"itâ⬠and treats him like any other customer (Kress). While she is doing so, her boss, Charlie, comes over and harasses John, telling Sally, ââ¬Å"You get him out of hereâ⬠¦The government says I have to serve spics and niggers but it dont say I gotta serve him!â⬠(Kress). Immediately after several government officials enter the diner and take John away, who, as he leaves, says, ââ¬Å"I am sorry, Sally Gourleyâ⬠¦I seldom have the chance to show our friendliness to an ordinary earth person. I make so little difference! (Kress). The entire encounter rattles Sally, who spends the remainder of her night reflecting on the events and questioning her perception of the wor ld and other people. Before the encounter with John, Sallyââ¬â¢s view of the world is simplistic, where she labeled someone as one thing, such as ââ¬Å"bullyâ⬠for Charlie, and that was their only characteristic. Yet, her contact with John and the events that transpire broadens her perception, and she recognizes the complexity of people. Before John calls her an ââ¬Å"ordinary earth personâ⬠Sally ââ¬Å"never thought of [her]self as an ordinary earth personâ⬠before, meaning her world view was focused predominantly on herself, where she viewed herself as an individual rather than part of a collective, or, ordinary (Kress). Once she begins to recognize how similar she is to others, she starts to view everyone as people with lives and personalities as dynamic as her own. Sally notices that Charlie unconsciously refers to John as ââ¬Å"heâ⬠rather than ââ¬Å"itâ⬠ââ¬âsomething that takes Sally a while to do (Kress). Through this small gesture, Sally realizes that in some ways Charlie is better than she isââ¬âeven in his prejudice he still recognized and referred to the alien as a person rather than a sexless animal or object. No longer can Sally see Charlie merely as a bully and person to dislike, for she recognizes that who he is not defined entirely by his bully label, ââ¬Å"Hes a bully, but I want to look at him and see nothing else but a bully. Nothing else but that. Thats all I want to see in Charlieâ⬠(Kress). This unveiling of the complexities and shades of gray of life angers Sally, ââ¬Å"Im furiousâ⬠¦furious mad, as mad as Ive ever been in my lifeâ⬠, as she cannot return to her simpler, easier to understand, paradigm (Kress). She directs this anger at John, for their encounter is what sparks this sudden change in her life. Arthur C. Clarkeââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬ËThe Starâ⬠features a similar paradigm shift, except with religion. While the narrator does not directly interact with another race, he does stumble upon a vault filled with the archives of a race destroyed long ago by their star going supernovaââ¬âencountering their culture and history. As the narrator explores more about the alien race whoââ¬â¢s culture he excavated, he starts to question his religion and ultimately comes across knowledge that rattles his entire belief system. Despite being initially steadfast in his faith, after discovering a vault filled with the history detailing ââ¬Å"the warmth and beauty of a civilization that in many ways must have been superior to our ownâ⬠the narrator begins to question what kind of god would allow the genocide of a race ââ¬Å"in the full flower of its achievementâ⬠who ââ¬Å"were not an evil peopleâ⬠(Clarke). Even with this questioning, it is not enough to make h is faith falter, yet, when the narrator, an astrophysicist, calculates the exact date and range of the supernova, he has physical proof that shatters his reality: the famous star of Bethlehem was not an ethereal miracle, but rather the light of a star exploding and wiping out an entire civilization. Had the narrator not discovered and encountered the historical archives of the past alien people, he would likely have continued his life as a firm believer of his Jesuit faith, but by feeding his curiosity about the destruction of a race so similar to his own, ââ¬Å"the ancient mystery was solved at lastâ⬠and with it, his belief system completely changed forever. Similarly, Frederic Brownââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Arenaâ⬠describes a more belligerent encounter between humanity and an alien race, resulting in the protagonist, Carson, being emotionally and physically scarred. While in a stalemate facing a battalion of enemy alien ships, Carson is whisked away into a closed off arena where a superior being dictates that they fight to the death, and the loserââ¬â¢s race will be completely annihilated. Initially, Carson opts for diplomacy and peace, hoping to barter a treaty with the ââ¬Å"Outsideâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Can we not have peace between usâ⬠¦Why cannot we agree to an eternal peace your race to its galaxy, we to oursâ⬠(Brown). Once rejected, the gravity of the situation begins to weigh on Carsonââ¬âhe doesnââ¬â¢t want to be responsible for ââ¬Å"death to the entire race of one or the otherâ⬠but has no other choice (Brown). Out of desperation to ensure the survival of the human race and himself, Carson tosses aside his m orals and ideas for peace, and brutally kills his opposition. He returns to his previous position, welcomed by his captain exclaiming, ââ¬Å"Come on in. The fightââ¬â¢s over. Weââ¬â¢ve won!â⬠(Brown). Only Carson knows what role he played and the sacrifices he had to make during his encounter with the alien raceââ¬âhis only souvenir being ââ¬Å"tiny, almost unnoticeable, perfectly healed scarsâ⬠(Brown). Following his encounter with the now destroyed alien race, Carson is left with physical scars and emotional trauma accompanying the knowledge that he assisted in the genocide of an entire race. All of these stories feature unique impacts resulting from encounters with alien races, all of which cause a paradigm shift in the protagonist. ââ¬Å"Arenaâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Out of All Them Starsâ⬠feature direct interactions and resulting personal changes, while ââ¬Å"The Starâ⬠gives a more indirect example of how knowledge can lead to more than expected, resulting in a significant change in belief and perspective. The alien races in these stories represent new ideas and possibilities that threaten what is currently known and accepted as truth. Once encountered, the knowledge gained can entirely alter perspective and can never be unlearned, resulting in a permanent change. Gestalt And Humanistic Modes Of Thought - 800 Words
Gestalt and humanistic modes of thought share the idea that people have free-will and are able to make their own choices in life; also, a high importance is placed on a personââ¬â¢s experiences and personal viewpoint (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014). Phenomenology, or the introspective analysis of whole conceptual experiences, features prominently in both ideologies (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014). Another shared viewpoint is that human beings are unique, and as such there is a limit to what can be learned from other humans, or from the study of animals (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014). The thought that people are too complex to be studied with normal scientific methodology is another shared tenet. The main difference between these two ideologies is the basic premise of human nature. Humanistic psychologyââ¬â¢s primary belief is that human nature is intrinsically good and that their default would be to naturally get along with other people (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014). For Gestalt type psychology, the basis of human nature is mainly neutral, and people then have to exercise choice in order to become something else. Coming to understand oneââ¬â¢s own mortality as a way to live life is part of Gestalt psychology, whereas for humanistic psychology it is not considered as important to human actuality (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014). The application and connection of a humanistic understanding of learning and how it applies to leadership roles also shares some similarities with Gestalt psychology. Hunger Is A Serious Problem - 910 Words
World Hunger Hunger is an everyday battle in America and all over the world. Hunger is a feeling of discomfort, or weakness caused by lack of food. Another definition for hunger is having a strong desire or craving for food. Iââ¬â¢m sure everyone has heard once before in their lives from their friends, parents or other family members that you are not truly hungry even though you say otherwise. Every time I would say, ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t like that,â⬠and I was talking about some type of food my parents would always tell me that ,ââ¬Å"People in Africa and Mexico donââ¬â¢t get to have warm meals at least 3 times a day, like we do.â⬠In Africa, Germany, Mexico, and other countries, even in America ,and all around the world hunger is still a very serious problem. Maybe in a world where ISIS doesnââ¬â¢t exist and people donââ¬â¢t get murdered could hunger be extinct. In fact, hunger exists in virtually every community in the United States and 1 in 7 Americans strug gle to get enough to eat. In 2014 ,46.7 million people were in poverty. Poverty is the state of being extremely poor. In the same year, 15.5 million children under the age of 18 were in poverty, 4.6 million seniors ,65 and older were also in poverty. The overall national poverty rate according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure is 15.3 percent, compared with the official poverty rate of 14.8 percent. A comparison between a girl of 8 years old and one of 16 years old, talking about who they are free essay sample
Two girls, an 8 year old and a sixteen year old were interviewed talking about who they are, following Rosenbergââ¬â¢s categories . It was found that there is a developmental trend between the girls. The locus of self ââ¬â knowledge shifts with the age from relating on others to relating to the self. Introduction: Younger children focus on describing external characteristics when they talk about who they are, for example, physical appearance and routine activities they participate in, on things that other people are able to observe. As children get older, they focus more on internal characteristics, emotions, relationships with others. Do children have an independent sense of self or is it simply a reflection of the ideas of others? Rosenberg called this locus of self ââ¬â knowledge and he explored it by asking questions like: If I asked you and your mother how smart you were and you gave different answers, who would be right? Younger children were more likely to rely on another person as the reference point. Only 15 per cent placed the locus of self-knowledge within themselves, comparing with nearly 50 per cent of the older children. The locus of self ââ¬â knowledge changes with age. This suggests that children come to understand that no one else can fully understand their experiences, feelings. Methods Design In this practical report children and young people were interviewed about what they think about themselves. Participants The persons who were interviewed were two girls, a 8 years old from a primary school called Annie and a 16 years old from secondary school, called Kirsty. Both of them were from Milton Keynes. Materials The interviews were conducted by two members of the ED209 module team: Kieron Sheeby with the younger girl and Peter Barnes with the older girl. Procedure Two schools, one primary and one secondary, from Milton Keynes were approach to identify children who are willing to be recorded talking about themselves. After a number of children agreed to take part of the practical study their parents were asked to sign a form giving consent to their participation and to the use of the audio-recording for the ED209 module. At the beginning of each interview the participants were told that they could ask for the recording to be stopped at any time if they found themselves saying something that they didnââ¬â¢t wish to be recorded. By asking the parents to sigh the form and telling the children that they can stop the recording any time the Code of Human Research Ethics British Psychological Society was respected in this practical study. The interviews took place in 2005 and the children were recorded in their schools during a school day. Annie, the 8 years old had the interview with Kieron Sheeby in a building adjacent to their school which was familiar to them because it was where they regularly went for PE lessons. Annie was accompanied by a classroom assistant. Kirsty, the 16 years old had the interview with Peter Barnes in a small room opposite the school secretaryââ¬â¢s office. In both interviews were present the sound recorder and the producer. A microphone was positioned for the recordings to be at their best. The children were not inhibited by the presence of other people in the room or by the equipment. Results: The different categories that how two girls, an 8 year old and a 16 year old use to talk about self-description are summarised in Table 1. The raw scores are provided in Appendix A. The data was collected following Rosenbergââ¬â¢s categories. Table 1 Rosenbergââ¬â¢s categories applied for an 8 years old girl and 16 years old girl Rosenbergââ¬â¢s categories Annie ââ¬â 8 years old Kirsty ââ¬â 16 years old Physical 4 1 Character 2 5 Relationships 0 2 Inner 0 2 The results of the report showed that the eight year old girl used physical and character categories when she talked about who she is. The sixteen years old is a bit more diversified, using all of the four categories to describe her, but her favourite one is the character category. Talking about relationships and inner categories it could be seen that there is a nice difference between the girls. The eight year old didnââ¬â¢t talk about it, while the sixteen year old choose two of each to describe her. Discussion The results of this report indicate that childââ¬â¢s self-description shows changes with age. The outcome of this report is a pattern of results predicted by Rosenberg: most of the descriptors used by younger children were about physical activity and physical characteristics. The older children were more likely to use the character traits to define the self. The results indicated that the eight years old uses the physical and character categories to describe her, while the sixteen years old goes more for the character and inner to talk about who she is. The younger girl has no relationships and inner categories descriptions in her way of talking about who she is. For the older girl physical categories descriptions are not so important when she talks about who she is. In Annieââ¬â¢s interview there is a lack of consistency between the question that is asked and the answer that is given. The 8 year old doesnââ¬â¢t properly understand some of the questions. For example when she was asked if she has any weak points, she replied: ââ¬Å"my earsâ⬠¦my legsâ⬠. Locus of self-esteem is following Rosenbergââ¬â¢s findings. When Annie was asked who would be right if her mother and she were asked the question: How is she doing at Maths and they both would give a different answer. Annie was relying on her mother as the reference point of her answer: ââ¬Å"sheââ¬â¢s seen all my Maths works from the receptionâ⬠. The locus of self-knowledge changes with the age. Kirsty was asked if her mother and she would give the same answer to the question if sheââ¬â¢s well behaved home. And if not who will be right? Kirstyââ¬â¢s answer was using the personal characteristics: ââ¬Å"they think Iââ¬â¢m being moody, but I think Iââ¬â¢m funnyâ⬠, she understands that her parents canââ¬â¢t understand her experience and feelings as she understands them. There is a developmental trends in the way in which these two girls describe themselves and the way how the interviews go. The sixteen year old seems to understand better the questions that were asked. She also was framed in all the four categories when she talked about who she is. Whereas the eight year old didnââ¬â¢t quite get all the questions and she choose only two of those four categories to describe who she is. The results from this project look like young children use more physical categories than the older children to talk about who they are. O well itââ¬â¢s not possible to generalize these findings because there were interviewed only two girls. And there are no boys in the discussion. The validity of these interviews is a concern. A development of this study, therefore, would be to extend the number of the children and also will be interesting to bring some boys into the interviews and find out what do they say about who they are. If the same interviews would be done by other researchers I donââ¬â¢t think that the findings under the same circumstances would be the same.
